ALGIERS- Lafarge Algeria, a subsidiary of the renowned Swiss group Holcim, has recently announced remarkable export results for the first half of 2023. In an official press release on June 19, the company expressed its gratitude to the Algerian authorities and its partners for their support, which has contributed to their outstanding achievements.

During the first six months of the year, Lafarge Algeria exported approximately 1.7 million tons of products, with 39% comprising finished cement goods. These exports amounted to a staggering value exceeding $80 million, surpassing the export turnover of the previous year during the same period. This remarkable growth in export revenue reflects Lafarge Algeria’s commitment to expanding its global presence and enhancing its competitiveness.

Simultaneously, Lafarge Algeria has been actively focusing on the local market, introducing innovative solutions that cater to the evolving needs of the construction industry. Notably, they have launched CHAMIL™ ECOPlanet, Algeria’s first “green” cement with a reduced carbon footprint, as well as AIRIUM™, a thermal insulation solution for buildings, and ARDIA™, an innovative solution for road construction and renovation. By offering these cutting-edge products, Lafarge Algeria aims to provide sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional construction materials.

Lafarge Algeria attributes its export success to intensified efforts in targeting new and more competitive markets across five continents. These exports have been facilitated through various Algerian ports, with essential support from the central authorities, ports, customs, and the P.A.F. This collaborative approach has enabled Lafarge Algeria to expand its customer base and enhance its international standing.

In a significant development, Lafarge Algeria conducted its first-ever export operation of oil cement, specifically “WellCem™,” to Tunisia by land in March. By meeting customer requirements and diversifying its mode of shipment, Lafarge Algeria has demonstrated its commitment to adaptability and customer satisfaction.

The company has undertaken several sustainable projects to support its growth plans. One notable initiative is the launch of an automatic ship loader at the port of Djendjen, capable of loading 18,000 tons per day. Furthermore, Lafarge Algeria has constructed quays, storage silos, and a dedicated logistics platform for export activities. An extension of these facilities is planned to be completed by the end of the year. Additionally, the company has invested in a new fleet of high-performance trucks to facilitate the efficient transportation of its products.

Lafarge Algeria expressed its gratitude to its partners, customers, and the authorities for their unwavering support. The company remains steadfast in its commitment to bolstering its presence in the global market while contributing to Algeria’s economic development and the preservation of its natural resources. Through its Geocycle™ initiative, Lafarge Algeria actively engages in the recovery and recycling of industrial waste, further emphasizing its dedication to sustainable practices.
