Algiers, Algeria | In an address marking the 30th anniversary of the National Center for Studies and Research on the Popular Resistance, the National Movement, and the November 1954 Revolution, Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Laïd Rebiga, underscored that national memory is not a passive archive, but the cornerstone upon which Algeria’s identity and resilience are built.
Rebiga emphasized that Algeria’s historical legitimacy is deeply rooted in victory and resistance, a trajectory that continues to define the nation’s collective consciousness. “Our historical reference is founded on triumph,” he declared, “the Algerian people’s creed is victories, not defeats—no matter the deceptive platforms, fabricated narratives, or malicious campaigns seeking to fracture our unity.”
National Memory as a Shield of Sovereignty
The minister highlighted that Algeria’s strength lies in its unwavering internal cohesion and the organic unity between its leadership and people, forged through decades of sacrifice and reinforced by an unbroken chain of values. He asserted that the safeguarding of national memory serves as both a shield against foreign subversion and a compass for future generations, ensuring that the nation’s historical trajectory remains anchored in dignity and sovereignty.
Rebiga further praised the National Center for Studies and Research as a strategic institution tasked with preserving Algeria’s historical legacy. He stressed its role in presenting the narrative of resistance and liberation with academic rigor and intellectual responsibility, thereby cultivating a unifying national discourse that strengthens identity and fosters continuity across generations.
“Algeria,” he noted, “is fully aware of the regional and international dynamics shaping its environment. Its greatest wager lies in the durability of its internal front, the unity of its people, and the intellectual foresight of its vanguard elites to interpret events accurately and respond with clarity.”
The minister concluded by reaffirming that Algeria’s memory is not confined to monuments or documents, but lives through the collective will of its people to honor the sacrifices of the past while projecting a vision of sovereignty, stability, and renewal.
