ALGIERS- The Left Democratic Federation in Morocco has placed blame on the government, led by the “Makhzen” system, for the political, economic, and social crises that have unfolded, expressing concern about the escalating situation.
In a statement issued by its political bureau, the Federation expressed bewilderment at the insistence on implementing unpopular and undemocratic policies. It highlighted the lack of a genuine will to combat corruption, citing the withdrawal of the illicit enrichment law from parliament. The party accused the government of manipulating the political landscape to its advantage.
The Federation criticized the government’s disregard and procrastination in positively addressing the legitimate demands of the education workforce. The delay has resulted in the loss of three months of the academic year. Furthermore, the party accused the government of attempting to limit the number of impoverished individuals benefiting from direct support, contradicting the constant promotion of building a social state by the official media.
The party declared its support for the legitimate struggles of public sector workers, including those in education, health, and local municipalities. Additionally, it expressed solidarity with the demands of medical college students. The Left Democratic Federation called for the immediate release of dozens of arrested professors.
The party also announced its support for the protests of the residents of Fikik (southeastern Morocco) against a project to privatize the management and marketing of the region’s water to a regional company. It urged the state to respond to their legitimate demands.
Reiterating its call for the release of all political prisoners, journalists, and bloggers, the Left Democratic Federation urged genuine efforts to combat corruption without selectivity. It emphasized the need for a responsible and genuine social dialogue to address the challenging circumstances and maintain social stability in the country.
