Algiers – December 2025 – Mohamed Takala, President of the High Council of State in Libya, engaged in high-level discussions with Abdelkrim Rekaibi, the Algerian Ambassador to Libya, emphasizing the enduring fraternal bonds between the two nations. The discussions underscored Algeria’s steadfast support for Libya’s pursuit of parliamentary and presidential elections, a constitutional referendum, and the resolution of institutional divisions.
The Algerian Ambassador reaffirmed the unwavering backing of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian government for the Libyan people, highlighting the pivotal role Algeria continues to play in fostering stability and political resolution in its neighbor. Both sides explored avenues to expand bilateral economic cooperation, stimulate trade, and prioritize the reopening of the Debdeb border crossing along with the resumption of direct air travel, measures aimed at boosting commerce, tourism, and deepening the historic brotherhood between the peoples.
President Takala emphasized the strategic importance of Algeria’s involvement in overcoming political obstacles and achieving a comprehensive settlement in Libya. He further called for the harmonization of political positions within the Arab League, the African Union, and other regional organizations, asserting that the profound fraternal relations grant Algeria a significant role in mediating political solutions and consolidating peace in Libya.
