Algiers – November 2025 – In a move reflecting Algeria’s renewed commitment to dynamic urban governance and modernized local administration, Minister of the Interior, Local Assemblies, and Transport, Saïd Sayoud, officially installed the newly appointed delegated walis of the administrative districts of Chéraga, Dar El Beïda, and Sidi M’hamed in the capital. The ceremonies were attended by the Governor of Algiers, Abdenour Rabhi, underscoring the strategic significance of these appointments for the capital’s evolving development framework.
Addressing the occasion, Minister Sayoud affirmed that Algiers is undergoing a dynamic process of structural and urban transformation, aligned with the broader national vision for sustainable and inclusive modernization. He highlighted several large-scale projects currently reshaping the capital, including the rehabilitation of the Algiers Bay waterfront, which he described as “one of the most magnificent in the world,” and the renovation of the Riad El Feth complex, an emblematic cultural and historical site overlooking the city.
The minister noted that the Riad El Feth project, which encompasses the symbolic Maqam Echahid (Martyrs’ Memorial), represents not only an architectural restoration effort but also a cultural renaissance aimed at preserving the memory of the nation while enhancing the city’s aesthetic and touristic appeal.
Sayoud reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of Algeria’s high authorities to continually improve citizens’ quality of life, emphasizing that urban development must go hand in hand with the efficient delivery of public services, environmental sustainability, and the promotion of civic well-being.
For his part, Governor Abdenour Rabhi highlighted that the recent reshuffling of the corps of walis and delegated walis by the President of the Republic forms part of a deliberate national strategy to reinforce the efficiency and effectiveness of local governance. He stressed that the measure aims to consolidate administrative performance, encourage proximity management, and ensure that the aspirations of citizens are better reflected in local policymaking.
