Madar Maritime Company Unveils Strategic Passenger Sea Transport Project Amid Expansive Growth Vision

MMC charts a new course in Algeria’s maritime industry with advanced passenger transport plans and diversified cargo operations announced at Logistical 2025

Algiers, Algeria | May 18th, 2025 — In a move that signals a strategic shift within Algeria’s maritime sector, Madar Maritime Company (MMC), a subsidiary of Madar Holding Group, has officially announced its intention to launch a passenger maritime transport service as part of a comprehensive expansion plan. The revelation was made by Ms. Lilia Merzouki, MMC’s Commercial Director, during a dedicated roundtable on maritime transport held at the 8th edition of the International Transport and Logistics Exhibition, Logistical 2025, in Algiers.

Ms. Merzouki emphasized that this new passenger transport initiative constitutes a pillar of MMC’s tripartite development strategy, affirming the company’s ambition to broaden its operational horizon and strengthen its footprint in both the national and regional maritime sectors.

“The investment in passenger transport by sea represents one of the three core axes of our development vision,” she declared, noting that the company is actively preparing for the chartering of a vessel dedicated to passenger services. This comes in tandem with two other significant strategic undertakings: the acquisition of vessels for the transport of dry bulk cargo and the commissioning of the recently acquired container ship ‘Tahat’, which will soon be operational.

“These projects are currently at advanced stages of implementation,” Merzouki confirmed, underscoring MMC’s determination to diversify its maritime portfolio and establish itself as a key player within the regional shipping and logistics ecosystem.
