Algiers – September 2025 – Madar Maritime Company (MMC), a subsidiary of Madar Holding, has officially announced the launch of two new ferry lines connecting Algeria to Spain. As of September 15, MMC will operate the routes Oran–Alicante and Algiers–Alicante, further consolidating its presence in the western Mediterranean corridor.
This expansion comes on the heels of MMC’s already established Béjaïa–Alicante service, operated with the chartered vessel Romantika from the Estonian group Tallink. With the addition of Oran and Algiers, the company positions itself not merely as a transport provider, but as a key player in fostering mobility, trade, and people-to-people connections between Algeria and Europe.
“We are delighted to announce the opening of our new maritime connections: Oran–Alicante and Algiers–Alicante,” MMC declared in an official communiqué. The company further emphasized that details regarding schedules and departure dates will be communicated in the coming days, urging travelers to “stay connected” for updates.
At the core of MMC’s strategy lies an insistence on safety, reliability, and passenger comfort. Its official statement reiterated this commitment with the slogan: “With MMC, travel in serenity, comfort, and security.” The company seeks to position its services as a benchmark of quality within Algeria’s expanding maritime transport sector, catering both to leisure travelers and to the diaspora community maintaining ties across the Mediterranean.
Central to this operational leap is the vessel Romantika, unveiled in July as MMC’s flagship. Built in Finland in 2002, the ship boasts impressive technical specifications: a length of 192.5 meters, capacity for 2,500 passengers, 300 vehicles, and 1,000 linear meters of freight space. Affreighted for nine months with options for extension, the vessel symbolizes MMC’s pragmatic yet ambitious approach to building a sustainable maritime fleet capable of addressing Algeria’s long-term needs.
