Algiers, Algeria | June 23rd, 2025 — In an operation underscoring Algeria’s resolve against smuggling and customs violations, officers from the Principal Inspection of Passenger Control at the maritime station “Cheikh Haddad” in Béjaïa successfully seized a large shipment of undeclared and sensitive merchandise arriving from Marseille, France.

According to a communiqué issued on Monday by the Directorate General of Customs, the seizure was carried out following the detection of multiple infractions, including false declarations, non-declaration of goods, and the illicit introduction of items subject to special licenses or authorizations without the required legal documentation during customs clearance.

The intercepted shipment contained a diverse array of goods, among which were:

• High-end IT equipment

• Sensitive and security-related devices, including surveillance cameras, rifle-mounted optical sights, drones, and unlicensed wireless communication tools

• Home appliances

• Used clothing and footwear

• Bicycles

• Mobile phone accessories, such as chargers and power grips

• Other undeclared commercial merchandise

These violations were uncovered during the inspection of ferry crossings from Marseille, as part of routine customs procedures aimed at combating illegal trafficking and protecting national interests.

The Directorate emphasized that the operation is part of the broader, ongoing effort led by Algerian Customs to uphold the country’s legislative and regulatory framework. It aims to counter all forms of smuggling, commercial fraud, and customs evasion, while simultaneously ensuring the safety of citizens and the stability of the national economy.

Authorities reiterated their unwavering commitment to apply stringent border control measures and to preserve Algeria’s sovereignty in the face of increasingly sophisticated smuggling networks.
