Meriem Benmouloud Highlights Algeria’s Strategic Shift Toward Cloud Computing and AI

Algiers, Algeria | November 11th, 2024 — Algeria is making significant strides in embracing cutting-edge technological solutions, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain, according to Meriem Benmouloud, Minister of Digitalization and Statistics. Speaking at the regional workshop “Towards Complete and Meaningful Connectivity in Arab Countries,” Benmouloud emphasized that the country is resolutely advancing toward these innovations, ensuring the necessary infrastructure is in place to support their integration.

“We are firmly moving toward cloud solutions and AI,” Benmouloud affirmed. “In order to successfully implement these technologies, it is essential to first establish the right infrastructure. This includes the construction of data centers meeting international standards, with ongoing projects in Blida and Algiers. The Algiers data center is already 50% complete, while the Blida center is still undergoing civil engineering studies.”

Benmouloud further elaborated on the critical role these developments play in the broader context of Algeria’s digital transformation, particularly in the creation of a national information system. “We are working to establish advanced systems for information hosting, processing, and security. Without the cloud, AI and blockchain cannot be effectively integrated. These systems will ensure the secure exchange and processing of data, which is fundamental for enabling citizens, businesses, and institutions to access digital services,” she explained.

Additionally, the Minister highlighted the country’s efforts to lay the groundwork for e-governance, which will link all state institutions through the national network. This initiative, she noted, will guarantee a secure environment for data exchange across the public sector and create a foundation for further digitalization in Algeria.

In conclusion, Benmouloud reiterated that these advancements are not just about modernizing Algeria’s technological capabilities but are also essential to ensuring national security and fostering an environment conducive to the digital economy. “The integration of cloud, AI, and blockchain is key to building a secure, resilient, and future-ready digital ecosystem for Algeria,” she asserted.
