Discussions Focus on Strengthening Media Coverage of Science, National Study Day, and Specialized Training Sessions for Journalists

Algiers, Algeria | May 27th, 2025 — In a step towards reinforcing the synergy between the scientific and media communities, Mohamed Meziane received a high-level delegation from the Algerian Academy of Sciences and Technology (AAST) on Tuesday, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Communication.

The delegation was led by Professor Mohamed Hichem Kara, President of the AAST, who was accompanied by the Academy’s two Vice-Presidents, Dr. Mohamed Khoudja and Professor Fatima Laraba. This official meeting underscored the shared commitment of both institutions to promoting scientific culture and elevating the role of science communication across Algeria.

The discussion centered on key strategic themes, including the vital role played by the AAST in disseminating scientific knowledge and its active contribution to intellectual and scientific engagement at the national level. A focal point of the exchange was the development of mechanisms for sustainable media coverage of the Academy’s scientific activities and the organization of a national study day dedicated to scientific information.

In a move that marks a forward-thinking vision for the Algerian media landscape, the meeting also broached the possibility of launching specialized training sessions for journalists in the field of scientific and technical reporting. Such initiatives would equip media professionals with the tools and expertise necessary to convey complex scientific information to the broader public in a clear, accessible, and engaging manner.

“This meeting reflects the mutual will of both parties to elevate the national media landscape and to make science and knowledge accessible to all segments of society,” the statement concluded.

The encounter sets a promising precedent for long-term cooperation between the Ministry of Communication and the AAST, aiming to cultivate a culture where science is not only produced and respected but also effectively communicated to inform and empower Algerian citizens.
