Minister Arkab Intensifies Talks with Global Energy Giants at NAPEC 2025

Algiers – October 2025 – Mohamed Arkab, Minister of State and Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, held a series of high-level bilateral meetings on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Oran, on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the North Africa & Mediterranean Petroleum and Hydrogen Exhibition & Conference (NAPEC 2025). The discussions brought together top executives and senior representatives of leading international oil and gas corporations, reaffirming Algeria’s growing prominence as a strategic energy partner.
In-depth discussions with ExxonMobil
Minister Arkab first met with a delegation from the American energy giant ExxonMobil, led by John Ardill, Vice President for Exploration and New Opportunities. The meeting focused on potential areas of cooperation and investment with Sonatrach, particularly in research, exploration, and hydrocarbon development. Both sides underscored the crucial role of technological innovation, environmental sustainability, and enhanced national production capacity as the foundation for future partnerships.
Constructive dialogue with Chevron
The Algerian minister subsequently held talks with representatives of Chevron, headed by Joe Cook, Vice President for Business Development. Discussions revolved around prospective collaboration with Sonatrach in exploration and exploitation projects, including offshore ventures. The parties also examined avenues for advanced technology transfer and the exchange of specialized geological and technical expertise.
On this occasion, Minister Arkab reaffirmed that Algeria’s new hydrocarbons law provides an attractive and secure investment framework, designed to encourage responsible and sustainable resource development while ensuring mutual benefits for partners and the nation alike.
These bilateral engagements reflect the proactive openness of Algeria’s energy sector and the ministry’s determination to deepen partnerships with leading global players. They also reaffirm Algeria’s steadfast commitment to consolidating its position on the international energy scene and contributing to the global transition toward a balanced and sustainable energy future.
