Algiers, Algeria | September 24th, 2024 — At the inauguration of the 2024-2025 academic year, Kamal Baddari, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the critical need to train graduates who can generate employment opportunities. His remarks underscore the pressing challenges facing the education sector and the necessity of aligning universities with their socioeconomic environments.
Baddari stated, “We must bridge the university with its socioeconomic environment and train graduates who can create job opportunities and contribute effectively to local and national development.” He called on the academic community to unite its efforts in addressing these challenges and to elevate Algerian universities to a standard of excellence.
The ceremony took place at the National School of Cybersecurity, located within the Abdelhafid Ihaddadene University Science and Technology Hub in Sidi Abdellah, and was attended by Mohamed Seghir Saâdaoui, the presidential advisor in charge of education, higher education, vocational training, and culture. “The victorious Algeria requires a robust university education system,” Baddari declared, affirming the ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of higher education and scientific research. He announced various measures aimed at expanding the network of national higher education institutions and diversifying training programs to improve performance levels.
Building a Resilient Educational Framework
Baddari’s focus on creating graduates equipped with the skills to foster employment opportunities is crucial in a rapidly changing global economy. By fostering a closer connection between universities and the workforce, Algeria aims to combat unemployment and stimulate economic growth.
The Minister reiterated the importance of adapting educational programs to meet the demands of the labor market, ensuring that graduates possess the necessary competencies to thrive in their respective fields. This approach not only addresses immediate employment needs but also aligns with Algeria’s long-term vision for sustainable economic development.
