Minister of Agriculture Emphasizes State’s Ongoing Support for National Products

Sidi Bel Abbès – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Cherfa, highlighted the continuous efforts of the state to support national products and enhance agricultural production capacities.

During a visit to the Sidi Bel Abbès province, the Minister stated that “the state remains committed to supporting national products.” He encouraged the establishment of mechanisms that would enable investors in the agricultural sector to connect to the electricity grid and utilize boreholes for irrigation. Cherfa emphasized that the state gives special attention to investments that strengthen agricultural production capacities, thereby achieving food security.

As part of the visit, Mr. Cherfa received a presentation on the Agricultural Equipment Complex in Sidi Bel Abbès, which successfully developed a pivot irrigation system for large surfaces with an integration rate of 60% and obtained compliance certificates for 800 devices of this type annually.

Inspecting the “Si Rabeh” pilot farm in the Tessala municipality, where a silo with a storage capacity of 1 million quintals of cereals is nearing completion, the minister highlighted that “these projects are part of the program approved by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for the agricultural sector across all provinces, and today the process is in its final phase.”

Cherfa also recalled that the President, during the last Council of Ministers, issued directives to restructure public sector pilot farms into production units and specialize them in certain strategic sectors.

Finally, the minister revealed that the plowing and sowing campaign has reached 85% of the set objectives, with over 2.5 million hectares planted with cereals out of the targeted 3 million hectares for the current agricultural season.
