Minister Rakhroukh Inaugurates Strategic Highway Infrastructure Projects in Mascara Province

Algiers, Algeria | In a decisive step toward reinforcing Algeria’s national road infrastructure and enhancing regional connectivity, Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Mr. Lakhdar Rakhroukh, is set to embark on a working visit to the province of Mascara on Tuesday. The visit will mark the commissioning of several critical projects that are expected to alleviate congestion, improve safety standards, and catalyze economic development in the region.

Foremost among the inaugurated projects is the first section of the strategic highway bypass linking the East-West Highway with the city of Mascara. This newly completed 15-kilometer segment stretches from the Sig interchange to the municipality of Hassine, forming part of a broader 25-kilometer highway corridor designed to serve as a vital logistical artery between national and regional hubs.

Accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Mr. Rakhroukh will also oversee the opening of Mascara’s southern bypass—a 4-kilometer route incorporating a major engineering structure. This new road is poised to significantly relieve urban traffic pressure and will facilitate direct access between National Road No. 14 and several primary transportation axes, thereby enhancing vehicular fluidity and connectivity.

In a parallel effort to modernize intermodal transport links, the minister will inspect progress on a key infrastructure project involving the construction of a major overpass at the intersection of National Road No. 4 and the East-West Highway. This initiative, part of a 12-kilometer road duplication plan between Sidi Daoud and Zaghloul, is aimed at improving user safety, traffic fluidity, and providing a robust logistical linkage to the industrial zone of Aqqaz.

Furthermore, Mr. Rakhroukh will officially launch the operation of a newly completed underground tunnel in the city of Mohammadia. This tunnel, constructed under the supervision of the National Agency for the Study and Monitoring of Railway Investment Realizations (ANESRIF), eliminates a previously level railway crossing. Its commissioning marks a significant leap toward modernizing Algeria’s railway infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted urban mobility.
