Algiers, Algeria | October 9th, 2024 — On October 9, 2024, a ministerial meeting was held at the High Authority for Digitalization, featuring the Minister of Digital Transformation, Meriem Benmouloud, and the Minister of Communication, Dr. Mohamed Laagab. The focus of this gathering was the introduction of two transformative projects designed to revolutionize the Algerian media landscape: the website of the National Center for Press, Image, and Media Documentation (CNDPI) and the innovative “Algerian Media Gateway.” The event brought together officials from the Ministry of Communication, the High Authority for Digitalization, and a team of specialized engineers.

During the meeting, the ministers offered critical insights and recommendations aimed at refining both the website and the gateway to ensure their alignment with the state’s overarching digitalization strategy. This initiative is a direct response to directives from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, notably Instruction No. 35 and Instruction No. 45, which emphasize the vital role of digitization across various sectors.

The Algerian Media Gateway is poised to become a comprehensive platform, granting seamless access to all Algerian media institutions—both public and private—regardless of location. This strategic initiative is anticipated to cultivate a more interconnected media landscape, thereby enhancing communication and collaboration within the sector.

The newly launched CNDPI website will provide users with access to a broad array of services, including printing arts, archive restoration, bookbinding, the sale of historical photographs, organization of photography exhibitions, coverage of conferences and events, infographic design, and access to scientific research. Additionally, users will have the opportunity to explore historical newspapers and books, as well as participate in virtual tours showcasing unique historical images across diverse fields.

Minister Benmouloud praised the successful completion of these projects, emphasizing their significance as valuable assets for both the media sector and the Algerian state. She noted that this development marks a crucial step forward in modernizing media infrastructure and preserving Algeria’s rich historical archives.

Looking ahead, a preliminary presentation of the website and the gateway is scheduled for October 22, 2024, coinciding with National Press Day. During this event, representatives from national media will have the chance to engage with these digital advancements. This initiative not only highlights the government’s commitment to leveraging technology but also aims to elevate standards of media accessibility and heritage preservation in Algeria.
