Mohamed Meziane Installs Slimane Laaredj as Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication

Algiers, Algeria– Thursday, July 17, 2025 |  In a ceremony held this Thursday, the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, presided over the official installation of Mr. Slimane Laaredj as the new Secretary General of the Ministry of Communication. This nomination comes at a defining moment for Algeria’s media landscape, as the sector undergoes sweeping reforms aimed at consolidating transparency, professionalism, and alignment with the strategic directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

In his address, Minister Meziane lauded Mr. Laaredj’s impressive professional trajectory and proven competence, describing his appointment as both meritorious and timely. He emphasized the critical importance of embedding professionalism as the cornerstone of media practice in Algeria, reiterating that only through the strict observance of ethical standards can the national press fulfill its role as a responsible pillar of democratic engagement.

Minister Meziane also underscored the renewed dynamism of national media institutions, pointing to the momentum gained in revitalizing public discourse and strengthening the media’s function as a conduit for accurate, constructive information. In this regard, he called for the urgent finalization of the legal texts governing the media sector, asserting that comprehensive legislative clarity is essential for bolstering regulatory coherence and institutional accountability.

Furthermore, the Minister urged all media stakeholders to intensify their efforts in contributing to the realization of the presidential roadmap. He affirmed that the vision of President Tebboune for the media sector—centered on modernization, ethical integrity, and national responsibility—must be translated into tangible reforms and operational frameworks that elevate the standard of Algerian journalism.

For his part, Secretary General Slimane Laaredj expressed his deep appreciation to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Minister Meziane for the confidence entrusted to him. He pledged to spare no effort in fulfilling the responsibilities of his new role, committing himself fully to advancing the ministry’s mission in service of the public and the state. “This is a duty of trust and dedication,” he declared, “and I shall work tirelessly to meet the expectations placed upon me.”
