ALGIERS— Moroccan citizens took to the streets in massive demonstrations to express their unwavering support for the Palestinian people and condemn the actions of the Zionist entity against Gaza. The demonstrators were resolute in their rejection of normalization with the Zionist entity and questioned the supposed advantages such agreements bring to Morocco and other nations involved. They also raised concerns about the recognition bestowed upon André Azoulay, a Moroccan-born individual, by the Israeli government.
One Moroccan protester, voicing his strong opposition to normalization and expressing solidarity with Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, decried the Zionist atrocities committed against Palestinians. He asked a pertinent question: “Where are the benefits of normalization for Morocco and for others?” The demonstrator questioned the tangible advantages that Morocco and other countries have gained from their normalization agreements with the Zionist entity and pondered whether such arrangements have truly served the Palestinian cause. The conferral of the National Medal of Honor upon André Azoulay by the President of the Zionist entity also raised concerns.
Another demonstrator emphasized the importance of their collective stance, highlighting that it was meant to send a clear message to the Palestinian people that free Moroccans unequivocally reject normalization and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, considering it a matter of national importance. The demonstrator stressed the necessity of unity among those protesting, emphasizing that this unity had proven effective in Palestine, where similar demonstrations had yielded positive results.
The demonstrator also had a message for those who believed that the “Zionist entity” would protect them as a result of normalization agreements. He noted, “Today we find [the Zionist entity] unable to defend itself, so how will it protect you?”. The demonstrator urged those involved in normalization agreements to reconsider their positions and return to their people, asserting that the interests of their own nations should not be sacrificed in the pursuit of controversial agreements with the Zionist entity.
Morocco’s massive demonstrations against normalization and in support of Palestine underscore the depth of emotions and concerns among its citizens. The solidarity expressed for the Palestinian cause resonates not only with Moroccans but also with those across the world who are closely monitoring the ongoing dynamics in the region.
