Moroccan Ports as Cogs in Zionist Entity’s War Machine: Makhzen Under Renewed Human Rights Fire

𝓐𝓵𝓰𝓲𝓮𝓻𝓼 – 𝓓𝓮𝓬𝓮𝓶𝓫𝓮𝓻 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 – The Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization has once again placed the Makhzen squarely in the dock, following a sharply worded legal and human rights letter addressed to the board of directors of the global shipping giant Maersk. The correspondence calls for the immediate cessation of the use of Moroccan ports—most notably Tangier Med—as transit hubs for supplying the Zionist entity’s army with military equipment, exposing what the Front describes as grave and well-documented complicity in an ongoing war of extermination against the Palestinian people.
According to the Front, the letter reveals alarming data pointing to Maersk’s involvement in the shipment of thousands of tons of military hardware to the army of the Zionist entity since November 2024. These transfers occurred through more than twenty vessels, all of which benefited directly from the advanced logistical infrastructure of Moroccan ports. This, the Front stresses, has taken place while the Zionist entity continues to perpetrate acts characterized as genocide and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
While the Moroccan authorities officially promote a narrative of “neutrality” and claim to provide “humanitarian support” to Palestinians, the Front argues that these revelations lay bare what it calls a blatant and indefensible contradiction between rhetoric and reality. Allowing military cargo destined for the Zionist entity’s army to transit through Moroccan territory, it asserts, renders Morocco an objective and active link in the supply chains that fuel the Zionist killing machine, regardless of any declarative political posturing.
The Front further underscores that this military transit has continued despite the announcement of a ceasefire and in direct defiance of rulings and provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice. These decisions explicitly call for halting the supply, transfer, or facilitation of weapons and military equipment to the Zionist entity. As a state party to the Genocide Convention, a signatory to the United Nations communication issued on 1 November 2024, and a participant in the outcomes of the Qatar Summit—which urged the suspension of arms supplies to the Zionist entity or their passage through third countries—Morocco, the Front insists, is legally bound by these obligations.
In this context, the use of Tangier Med, long showcased as a flagship of Moroccan economic success and global integration, takes on a far darker meaning. The Front argues that transforming such a port into a conduit for lethal military shipments strips it of its celebratory image and rebrands it as an instrument of moral and legal complicity. This reality, it adds, raises deeply unsettling questions about who truly controls sovereign decision-making over ports and logistics, and about the extent of state responsibility for what passes through its land and waters.
Responding to Maersk’s repeated claims that it adheres to international standards of responsible business conduct, the Front maintains that documented facts and publicly disclosed contracts with the U.S. government—specifically those involving cargo linked to the army of the Zionist entity—flatly contradict such assertions. In the Front’s view, these contracts demonstrate direct involvement in sustaining a war effort accused internationally of genocide, thereby nullifying any corporate claims of ethical neutrality.
The Front also issues a stark warning that this involvement does not expose Maersk alone to legal accountability. Any actors providing logistical facilitation, authorizations, or deliberate silence in the face of such transit may likewise be subject to legal pursuit under international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. This could extend to proceedings before national courts and international jurisdictions, including, ultimately, the International Criminal Court.
Concluding its message, the Front lays out unequivocal demands: the immediate halt of all shipping and logistical support connected to the army of the Zionist entity or to weapons programs such as the F-35 fighter jets; the severing of all ties with the Ministry of Defense of the Zionist entity and with companies involved in producing weapons used against Palestinian civilians; and a public, binding commitment to respect international law and human rights standards.
