Moroccans Defy Silence: Protests Condemn Gaza Genocide, Denounce Rabat’s Complicity through Normalization

Algiers, Algeria | In a display of defiance, thousands of Moroccans flooded the streets of Casablanca, Tangier, and other cities on Saturday evening, rejecting the ongoing genocide in Gaza and condemning their own government’s entanglement in normalization with the Zionist occupation regime. The protests, organized under the banner of the Moroccan Front for Palestine and Against Normalization, exposed a widening chasm between a defiant people and a regime bent on appeasing Tel Aviv at the expense of Palestinian blood.
A Nation in Revolt Against State Policy
In Casablanca’s iconic Hay Mohammadi district, demonstrators carried Palestinian flags, portraits of Handala, and banners declaring: “Children of Gaza: Innocence Against War,” and “Normalization is Treason—Down with All Forms of Collaboration.” The imagery stood in stark contrast to Rabat’s diplomatic overtures toward Israel, laying bare a fundamental contradiction: a people aligned with justice, and a government aligned with the oppressor.
Protesters did not mince words in condemning the monarchy’s normalization drive, linking it directly to the Zionist entity’s ability to continue its war on Gaza. “Every handshake with Zionism is a bullet against Palestinian children,” one activist declared, encapsulating the prevailing mood of rage and betrayal.
Tangier: A Stronghold of Resistance
Meanwhile in Tangier, a parallel march escalated into a fervent sit-in outside the port, where demonstrators denounced reports of Moroccan harbors being used as logistical stops for vessels linked to the Zionist war effort. “Tangier will never be a launching pad for genocide,” chanted the crowd, asserting the city’s historic role as a cradle of national protest and a bastion of anti-colonial spirit.
Placards accused Rabat of “turning Moroccan soil into a lifeline for an apartheid state,” while speakers demanded an immediate end to all military, economic, and diplomatic ties with the criminal entity.
Condemning Repression and Censorship
The mobilizations also carried a sharp critique of repression within Morocco itself. Demonstrators expressed solidarity with prominent activist Sion Assidon, denouncing the harassment and silencing of journalists such as Anas Charif, who have been targeted for exposing the scale of devastation in Gaza. “You cannot bury the truth of genocide by jailing its messengers,” a statement from the march declared, calling the government’s clampdown a desperate attempt to suppress a collective conscience it can no longer control.
People vs. Regime
The protests reveal the profound isolation of Morocco’s ruling establishment, caught between its alliance with the Zionist entity and the moral outrage of its citizens. While Rabat deepens security and economic ties with Tel Aviv, the Moroccan street has unequivocally branded normalization as an act of treason—a betrayal of Palestine, of Arab unity, and of Morocco’s own anti-colonial heritage.
The voices echoing from Casablanca and Tangier were not merely slogans but an indictment: the monarchy’s pursuit of legitimacy abroad comes at the price of complicity in genocide at home.
As Gaza endures bombardment, starvation, and displacement, Morocco’s streets reaffirm a different truth: that the spirit of solidarity cannot be extinguished by repression, nor can a regime’s diplomatic maneuvers erase the people’s historic commitment to Palestine.
From the Mediterranean coast to the Rif mountains, Moroccans are sending an unambiguous message: they refuse to be partners, even passively, in Israel’s machinery of war.
