Morocco: Calls Intensify for Escalating Efforts to End Normalization, Release Political Prisoners

Algiers- Algeria, May 9, 2024 – The Moroccan Workers’ Democratic Path Party has called for intensified and unified efforts to end normalization, defend labor rights, and secure the release of political prisoners.

In a statement issued by its political bureau, the party emphasized that the task of confronting normalization and overthrowing it lies with progressive forces in various Arab and African countries, with Morocco at the forefront. This necessitates the continued strengthening of the “Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Oppose Normalization,” enhancing its methods of work, and ensuring the active participation of the Moroccan student movement in the unified struggle against normalization.

The party praised the heroic resistance of the Palestinian people against a fascist, racist entity engaged in genocide, which has garnered widespread condemnation worldwide and mobilized student movements in various universities globally.

However, the party also noted that social dialogue has taken place amidst union fragmentation and the weakness of mobilizing forces and unified struggles, resulting in outcomes below the aspirations of the working class and the workforce as a whole. This has led to a series of proposed measures aimed at undermining acquired rights and freedoms.

In response, the party called for efforts to be unified in defending labor rights, obstructing attacks on trade union freedoms, and resisting the passage of retrogressive laws, including the strike-limiting law, retirement law, and labor code law. It expressed support for all labor struggles, including those of medical and engineering students, the unemployed, and other social movements, while calling for the immediate release of detained educators with no conditions and respect for trade union freedoms.

Furthermore, the party urged all activist forces to unify and intensify efforts and struggles to secure the release of all political prisoners and halt the policy of repression, arbitrary arrests, and vindictive trials.
