Morocco Deepens Betrayal: Zionist Entity Conducts Military Drills as Gaza Bleeds

As African Lion 2025 kicks off, Rabat hosts Zionist military forces while the Palestinian people endure unspeakable horrors, laying bare the monarchy’s moral collapse and complicity.

Algiers, Algeria | June 1st, 2025 — In an alarming escalation of normalization, Morocco has once again betrayed the Palestinian cause by allowing troops from the Zionist entity to participate in military exercises on its soil, despite the ongoing genocide unfolding in Gaza. The drills, part of the U.S.-led African Lion 2025—the largest military exercise on the African continent—have prompted a storm of outrage and condemnation from both Moroccan civil society and international human rights observers.

“This is an unprecedented scandal. We have become a Zionist protectorate in the midst of a brutal genocide,” said Ali Lmrabet, a Moroccan journalist exiled in Catalonia and a longtime critic of the Alawite monarchy. His words resonate with millions across the region who view the Moroccan regime’s embrace of the Zionist entity as nothing short of treason.

Crucially, the Zionist troops participating in African Lion 2025 are not merely symbolic representatives. They belong to the notorious Golani Brigade, whose elite units have been directly implicated in atrocities committed in Gaza, including the execution of 15 Palestinian medical workers in March 2025. The United Nations Special Rapporteur, Francesca Albanese, has expressed deep concern over their presence in Morocco, warning that if these troops—accused of war crimes—are not subject to international investigation, their deployment may violate international law.

Moroccans, aware of the dangerous implications of normalization since it was formalized in 2020 under the so-called Abraham Accords, are now witnessing their worst fears materialize. From covert cooperation to brazen collaboration, Rabat’s submission to the Zionist entity has intensified to unprecedented levels. What was once a quiet betrayal has become an open act of complicity.

Though African Lion involves multiple African nations, Zionist forces are involved only in operations held on Moroccan territory. This damning fact underscores Morocco’s unique status as the only African country willing to train with Zionist combat units actively engaged in what leading international voices now describe as a genocide.

In the eyes of the Moroccan people, this act amounts to nothing less than treachery. Thousands have taken to the streets, despite the escalating repression from security forces, to denounce their government’s capitulation. Among them is Karim Hassoun, co-founder of the Brussels-based Hind Rajab Foundation, which tracks the movements of Zionist war criminals worldwide. “As a Moroccan, I have rarely felt such profound betrayal. Training with a unit known for war crimes while a genocide unfolds in real-time is not strategy—it is direct complicity,” he declared.

The Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Normalization—a national coalition of opposition parties, unions, and civil society groups—called the Zionist participation “a deliberate provocation” and demanded their immediate expulsion from Moroccan soil.

Even the façade of religious duty that King Mohammed VI maintains through his presidency of the Al-Quds Committee has collapsed. Tasked with defending the Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem, he remains silent in the face of Zionist crimes against the Palestinian people and the ongoing attempts to alter the legal status of Al-Quds. His silence is not just political—it is an abdication of moral responsibility.

“This horrifying complicity is not simply a matter of geopolitics or fear of Algeria,” Lmrabet added. “This regime has long maintained covert ties with the Zionist entity. Let us not forget that Hassan II once allowed Mossad to spy on Arab leaders during the Arab League Summit in Casablanca in the 1960s.”

Fouad Abdelmoumni, a leading Moroccan economist and figure of the opposition, echoed this sentiment. “The Makhzen seeks to prove to the United States and the Zionist entity that it is a loyal 100% ally, while falsely pretending to uphold Palestinian rights. But in the face of Zionist war crimes, such a position is not just hypocritical—it is unacceptable.”

At a time when more than 54,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been killed in Gaza over the past twenty months—many of them women and children—Morocco’s hosting of the very soldiers responsible for these atrocities is a national disgrace. The enclave has become an open-air graveyard of ruins and despair, yet Rabat chooses military camaraderie with the perpetrators over solidarity with the victims.

Despite violent repression, the Moroccan people have refused to remain silent. Their demonstrations, chants, and unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause stand in stark contrast to a regime that has traded dignity and sovereignty for illusionary security and American favor.

What remains clear is this: Morocco’s complicity with the Zionist entity in the shadow of genocide marks a dark chapter in the nation’s history—one the people will neither forget nor forgive.
