Political and social tensions are increasing in Morocco where several strikes are observed in various sectors of activity, at a time when the prices of basic necessities have increased and demonstrations against normalization with the Zionist entity continue against a background criticism of the Makhzen regime, accused for its inability to respond to citizens’ concerns.
In the opinion of several Moroccan politicians, the Makhzen has pushed the political field to decadence. In this context, the political party the Democratic Way (Al-Nahdj Edimocrati) has, in a conference, underlined that “the levels of political field decadence (in Morocco) have reached lowest level” citing among others, the example of the legislative, regional and local elections organized on September 21, 2021.
Through these results, continued the political party, “the Makhzen regime stifled ‘the February 20 Movement’, humiliated the Justice and Development Party (PJD), and installed its administrative parties loyal to its liberal policy, within the government coalition.
The Secretary General of the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS), Nabil ben Abdallah, agreed, pointing out that the recent legislative elections “have experienced abuses in terms of representative democracy”, thus noting the absence of an “integrated government vision”.
The same official also stressed that the reality on the ground contradicts the words of the Moroccan government at a time when “Morocco needs the government to be really a strong political government”, and must explain to Moroccans what it is doing, “especially that we are faced with complex and exceptional circumstances”.
