Algiers – October 2025 – In Morocco, the simmering anger of the youth has erupted with unprecedented force. For weeks, thousands of young citizens have taken to the streets demanding the most basic of human rights: access to healthcare, quality education, and dignified living conditions.
This spontaneous movement, ignited by the tragic deaths of eight pregnant women in the public hospital of Agadir due to gross negligence, has been dubbed GenZ 212. Yet instead of engaging in genuine dialogue, the Makhnazi regime reverted to its age-old repertoire: manipulation, brutal repression, and deliberate misinformation.
Rather than acknowledging its catastrophic mismanagement of public services, the regime resorts to deception, branding protestors as “hooligans,” “vandals,” or “manipulated minors” to undermine a legitimate call for justice. This rhetorical playbook, as old as the monarchy itself, seeks to criminalize the assertion of basic rights. In Agadir alone, three young demonstrators were gunned down by the gendarmerie. The authorities call it “self-defense.” But who could believe this narrative in a state where security forces operate with impunity, terrorizing civilians for decades? Who is threatening whom when unarmed youth face tanks, batons, and militarized repression?
The Agadir tragedy is no accident. It is the direct consequence of a regime that prioritizes the privileges of a parasitic elite over the health and well-being of its citizens. What truly alarms the Makhnazi rulers is not the destruction of a bank or a police vehicle, but the emergence of a leaderless generation daring to organize, mobilize, and speak for itself.
With 150,000 active members online, GenZ 212 bypasses traditional state-controlled channels of manipulation. Their slogans are simple yet piercing: “The people want healthcare and education!” “We want hospitals, not just stadiums!” These demands strike at the heart of a regime obsessed with international image, flashy projects, and servile alliances with foreign lobbies.
The monarchy claims to pursue “dialogue” while hundreds are arrested. It promises “reforms” while allowing citizens to die in dilapidated hospitals. It projects an image of a modern kingdom while ruling as a relic of a bygone dictatorship. Moroccan youth, however, are calling out this hypocrisy, and no propaganda can erase the truth.
Gen Z in Morocco has learned a simple truth: this regime will never change voluntarily. The bloody repression in Agadir proves it. But with each victim and each arrest, the anger swells. The Makhnazi state may attempt to silence the streets, but it cannot halt the awakening of a generation determined to reclaim its dignity.
