Morocco’s Embrace of the Zionist Entity: The Makhzen’s Political Suicide and Betrayal of Palestine

Algiers, Algeria | June 5th, 2025 — In an increasingly defiant show of betrayal, the Moroccan regime—commonly referred to as the Makhzen—continues its reckless normalization with the Zionist entity, disregarding both the pulse of its own people and the historic cause of Palestine. In a recent commentary, renowned geopolitical and military affairs expert Tewfik Hamel corroborated earlier warnings voiced by numerous analysts: the throne of Mohammed VI is teetering on the edge, and the Moroccan monarchy is knowingly hurtling toward its political demise.

The dramatic shift in public sentiment was catalyzed by the October 7, 2023 resistance operation, a bold and unprecedented Palestinian act of defiance against decades of Zionist aggression. The event shattered the carefully maintained illusions of the Abraham Accords and exposed the Makhzen’s collusion with the very regime that systematically slaughters Palestinian women and children. Across Morocco, a humiliated and enraged street has risen in protest against this shameless betrayal, marking the clearest sign yet of a regime increasingly out of touch and out of time.

As Hamel writes, “Since the Abraham Accords, Morocco has aligned itself with Israeli and American interests in military cooperation, intelligence sharing, and surveillance. This normalization was presented as a strategic necessity to counter Algeria and assert dominance over Western Sahara. Israeli expertise—particularly in drone warfare and desert surveillance—was viewed as critical in gaining operational superiority over the Polisario Front.”

But in reality, the Moroccan regime is trading its soul for short-term illusions of power, betraying its historical role as a supporter of Palestinian liberation in exchange for spyware like Pegasus and temporary favor in Western capitals. The price? Its very legitimacy.

Historically, the Moroccan monarchy has drawn its legitimacy from a blend of religious symbolism, historical continuity, and the illusion of national unity. That fragile architecture is now collapsing. By openly aligning with Zionist military forces, including the notorious Golani Brigade—responsible for some of the most heinous atrocities committed against Palestinian civilians—the regime is not only severing ties with its people but also shattering the foundational myths upon which it stood.

As previously emphasized, the question is no longer if a popular uprising will erupt in Morocco, but when. The storm is gathering. Tewfik Hamel aptly questions the regime’s suicidal obstinacy. While the strategic rationale may revolve around technological aid, Western endorsement, and surveillance capabilities, it appears that Rabat is also gripped by the iron hand of Tel Aviv’s blackmail and corruption—the very tactics the Makhzen itself uses to manipulate and coerce its regional partners.

What we are witnessing is not diplomacy, but subjugation. Not partnership, but servitude.

In its desperate bid for foreign validation and regional advantage, the Makhzen has cast aside the Palestinian cause, lost the trust of its people, and surrendered to the Zionist entity, becoming a willing pawn in a geopolitical chess game that it neither controls nor understands. This is no longer just a strategic miscalculation—it is a catastrophic betrayal.
