As Gaza Burns, Morocco’s Deal with the Zionist Entity Deepens, Threatening National Sovereignty and Unleashing a Wave of Unprecedented Public Outrage

Algiers, Algeria | May 14th, 2025 — Amidst the growing flames of Zionist atrocities and massacres in Gaza, the world stands silent or complicit. Yet, from the ashes of official normalization, the Moroccan people rise to declare in a unified, resolute voice: No to normalization, no to submission, no to participating in a deliberate betrayal of a just cause that is deeply rooted in the collective consciousness of the Arab and Islamic nations.

Despite the official Moroccan regime’s unyielding march towards deepening relations with the Zionist entity and transforming vague normalization agreements into open partnerships that undermine the remaining pillars of national sovereignty, the Moroccan people—old and young, women and men, students, unions, and political parties—are standing united to assert that Palestine is not a passing issue but a symbol of dignity and a reflection of identity. Morocco will not become a commodity to be traded in the markets of influence and power.

The ongoing protests, strikes, and political rallies across Moroccan cities are not merely emotional reactions but expressions of a collective awareness that the danger is no longer theoretical or distant—it is now a tangible threat to the nation’s sovereignty and the penetration of Israeli influence into vital state institutions under the guise of economic and technological cooperation.

Cities across the Kingdom of Morocco, from Tangiers in the north to Essaouira in the south, have witnessed waves of angry demonstrations. The protesters are united by a single demand: the immediate cancellation of the agreements with the Zionist entity and the expulsion of all Israeli representation from Moroccan soil, which is seen as a direct insult to the nation’s historic stance against Israel and its unwavering support for Palestine.

On Sunday evening, the city of Tangiers witnessed one of the largest protests, which quickly turned into a massive march through the city streets, chanting slogans such as “From Morocco to Gaza, one people, we won’t forget you” and “O regime, O coward, Palestine will not be humiliated.”

Simultaneously, protests were held in dozens of other Moroccan cities, all sharing the same central demand: the immediate termination of normalization and the rejection of Morocco’s integration into a new colonial project that threatens the country’s unity, stability, and sovereignty. These agreements, which appear to be based on economic cooperation, are seen as a cover for political and security infiltration by the Zionist entity.

On the last Friday, thousands of Moroccans took part in over 105 protest activities spread across 65 cities, as part of the “Flood of Al-Aqsa Friday” (Jum’at Tufan Al-Aqsa) 75th edition. The protests served as a strong reaffirmation that the agreements with Israel do not represent the people of Morocco, and that the blood of the Palestinian people is invaluable in the eyes of Moroccans who are resolute in their support for Palestine.

Alongside the protests, statements of condemnation came pouring in from various political parties, human rights associations, and professional unions, all calling on the Moroccan state to bear its moral and historical responsibility and end this farcical normalization process that is threatening the national fabric and tarnishing Morocco’s image in the Arab and Islamic worlds.

The Moroccan Observatory Against Normalization issued a stern statement urging the authorities to immediately reverse all forms of cooperation with the Zionist entity, warning that continuing on this path would constitute a betrayal of the nation’s core values and an assault on the dignity of Moroccan citizens who refuse to have their country entangled in new colonial schemes.

Similarly, the Al-Adl wal-Ihsan (Justice and Spirituality) movement issued an official statement condemning the regime’s insistence on continuing normalization despite widespread public opposition. It called on all active forces to escalate peaceful resistance until these catastrophic agreements are overturned.

In a remarkable step, the youth wing of Al-Adl wal-Ihsan launched a media campaign under the banner “For the Homeland, with Palestine, and Against Zionist Infiltration,” expressing its rejection of official normalization and calling on Moroccan youth to raise awareness, organize, and mobilize.

The Moroccan Association for Human Rights, the country’s largest independent rights organization, also demanded that the regime listen to the voice of the people and stop surrendering Morocco’s land and ports to the Zionists. The association condemned the state’s policies of repression and disregard for the public’s outcry. It announced the holding of its 14th national conference on May 23-25 under the slogan: “Unitary Struggle Against Corruption, Despotism, and Normalization, for a Morocco of Democracy and Human Rights.”

Similarly, the Democratic Labour Party strongly condemned the regime’s open doors to Israel, considering it a blow to Morocco’s sovereignty and a service to new colonial schemes. The party called for collective and resolute resistance to normalization projects.

On the university front, students continue to organize events and conferences against normalization, despite security clampdowns and repression. The National Union of Moroccan Students announced the organization of a student conference to oppose normalization and support Palestine, set to take place on May 13-15, with broad participation from political parties, unions, and civil society organizations.

This surge in public mobilization coincides with the signing of a new normalization agreement in the field of maritime transport, which allows Zionist ships to dock in Moroccan ports and grants Israeli companies dangerous logistical and financial advantages.

Political activist Boubker El-Onkhari warned of the serious repercussions of this agreement, describing it as a “disturbing compromise of national sovereignty.” He emphasized that it represents not just technical cooperation but a “strategic infiltration disguised as commercial agreements.”

El-Onkhari pointed out that pushing through such dangerous agreements without public debate or parliamentary oversight represents a blatant disregard for the people’s will and an attempt to bypass critical decisions affecting the country’s infrastructure. He questioned, “How can a Morocco that has always been proud of its support for Palestine allow its ports to be opened to an apartheid regime built on occupation and displacement?”

In conclusion, El-Onkhari stressed that what is marketed by the regime as cooperation is, in fact, a gradual empowerment of Israeli influence within Morocco’s national economy, in a creeping normalization that threatens the country’s future.

Today, Morocco stands at a crossroads: it can either respond to the people’s call for dignity and sovereignty or continue down a dangerous path that risks eroding its independence and decision-making power. One thing is certain, however—the people’s voice is louder than any attempts at pacification, and Palestine will remain at the heart of every free Moroccan, not to be desecrated or sold, because it is, quite simply, the symbol of dignity and a reflection of truth.
