Morocco’s Streets Roar for Gaza: Ninety Weeks of Defiance Against Famine, Genocide, and Normalization

Algiers, Algeria | For the ninetieth consecutive week, Morocco’s streets have borne witness to a defiant chorus of solidarity with the besieged people of Gaza. From Casablanca to Fez, from Agadir to Oujda, Moroccans poured out of mosques after Friday prayers, not merely to protest, but to indict a world order complicit in starvation, massacre, and dispossession.

Under the rallying cry “Your Silence Kills Us,” demonstrations unfolded in dozens of cities, affirming the Moroccan people’s unwavering stand with Palestine against the machinery of genocide. Children, women, and elders raised their voices against the Zionist entity’s deliberate policies of famine, forced displacement, and relentless bombardment — atrocities abetted by Western powers and shrouded in Arab and Islamic silence or complicity.

The protesters’ demands were unambiguous: an immediate halt to the slaughter in Gaza, the lifting of the inhumane siege imposed on over two million Palestinians, and urgent humanitarian relief for the displaced. Their chants condemned the daily massacres targeting hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and the most vulnerable of civilians. They denounced the assassinations of resistance leaders, the silencing of journalists, and the desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque — all symptoms of a colonial project rooted in violence and expansionism.

But the demonstrations also struck at home. Protesters categorically rejected Morocco’s normalization with the Zionist entity, branding it a betrayal of the nation’s conscience and an affront to its historical and moral commitments. For the Moroccan street, normalization is not diplomacy; it is complicity in war crimes.

The persistence of these protests — ninety weeks and counting — reveals a truth that cannot be erased: while governments may bend to pressure, peoples of conscience do not. Morocco’s citizens have chosen to stand with Gaza, to embody resistance in the face of genocide, and to remind both rulers and occupiers that history will not absolve those who stood idle as a people starved and slaughtered.
