Morocco’s Tangier Port: A Gateway for Genocide Ships

Algiers, Algeria | Morocco once again finds itself at the center of international outrage, as Tangier Med Port prepares to receive two notorious “genocide ships” — the MAERSK HARTFORD and NYSTED MAERSK — on Sunday, August 31. Both vessels have been previously implicated in the transfer of U.S. military cargo destined for the criminal entity’s war machine, making their return to Moroccan waters nothing short of a scandalous betrayal of the Palestinian cause.
The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement condemned Rabat’s decision to welcome these vessels, warning that Morocco is now willfully transforming its most strategic port into a logistical hub for the Zionist army. This, activists argue, is not a case of ignorance or oversight, but rather a deliberate policy of complicity that starkly contradicts the Moroccan regime’s carefully choreographed rhetoric of “solidarity” with Palestine.
A Calculated Complicity
By continuing to provide docking and servicing to ships complicit in supplying the criminal entity, Morocco aligns itself not with justice but with occupation and bloodshed. Every ton of cargo passing through Tangier Med on these vessels represents more weapons, more bombs, and more destruction unleashed upon Gaza and the West Bank. For the Moroccan authorities, trade corridors and strategic partnerships appear to outweigh basic human morality and the cries of an oppressed people.
Protests have erupted across Moroccan cities, particularly in Tangier and Casablanca, where demonstrators denounce what they now openly label “ships of extermination.” Citizens are increasingly unwilling to tolerate the transformation of their homeland into a gateway for war crimes. Their chants underline the deepening chasm between a regime that collaborates with imperial logistics and a populace whose sympathies lie firmly with the Palestinian resistance.
BDS has called for a full military embargo and demanded the immediate closure of Moroccan ports to any vessels connected with Zionist aggression. Crucially, the movement also urged Tangier port workers to resist direct complicity by refusing to unload, reload, or service these ships. The labor force, often treated as silent cogs in a global supply chain, is now seen as holding a critical line of moral resistance.
Morocco’s Betrayal in the Arab World
For decades, Morocco projected itself as a staunch supporter of Palestine in diplomatic forums. Yet the docking of “genocide ships” lays bare a grim truth: the Moroccan monarchy is prepared to sell Palestinian lives for geopolitical favors and trade interests. By turning Tangier into a passageway for war materiel, Morocco does not simply undermine its own credibility — it actively fuels the machinery of occupation.
This latest scandal underscores a fundamental reality: Morocco’s regime has crossed from passive normalization into active complicity. As the ships dock and weapons flow, the kingdom’s name will be forever etched not among defenders of justice, but among those who chose profit and subservience over solidarity and conscience.
