Mozambique Seeks Algerian Partnership for Energy Development

Algiers– In a promising move towards fostering international collaboration in the energy sector, Mozambique has extended a warm invitation to Algeria for active participation in the development of its hydrocarbon, electricity, and mining industries. This proposition was formally conveyed by the Mozambique Ambassador to Algeria, Carvalho Muaria, during a meeting with Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, earlier this week.

As articulated in an official press release from the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines, Ambassador Muaria expressed his deep desire to see Algeria play a pivotal role in Mozambique’s journey towards energy self-sufficiency. Muaria anticipates that Algeria’s involvement will be channelled through mutually beneficial partnerships between the national energy giants, Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, and their counterparts in Mozambique. These collaborations are expected to tap into Algerian expertise to advance Mozambique’s energy and mining sectors significantly.

Minister Arkab responded to this entreaty by assuring that Algeria stands ready to respond favorably to Mozambique’s overtures. He emphasized that Algeria recognizes the immense investment and partnership potential within the hydrocarbons, electricity, and mining sectors. This alignment of interests sets the stage for a fruitful collaboration that could be highly advantageous for both nations.

The meeting between Minister Arkab and Ambassador Muaria is a crucial step in the exploration of cooperation and investment opportunities between Algeria and Mozambique. The discussions have a strong focus on the hydrocarbon sector, particularly in the areas of exploration and gas production. Additionally, the talks encompass partnerships in training, renewable energy, electricity generation, and mining.
