National Organization of Algerian Journalists Condemns Heinous Zionist War Crime Against Press Freedom in Gaza

Algiers, Algeria | In a forceful and unyielding statement, the National Organization of Algerian Journalists (NOAJ) has denounced, in the strongest possible terms, the brutal assassination of Palestinian journalists Mohammed Qariqa and Anas Al-Sharif, who were martyred after their tent was struck by a missile fired from a Zionist warplane in front of Al-Shifa Hospital, west of Gaza City.

Describing the attack as a fully fledged war crime, the NOAJ declared that this latest atrocity adds yet another stain to the “black record” of the Zionist entity, whose systematic targeting of journalists and media crews forms part of a deliberate campaign to silence truth and erase evidence of its crimes.

The organization warned of the grave implications of this methodical policy of terror, which also targets medical teams, rescue workers, and unarmed civilians — a flagrant violation of every binding norm of international law and humanitarian conventions. The NOAJ called for an immediate and coordinated regional, international, and United Nations response to halt these barbaric practices and ensure the protection of journalists and civilians in conflict zones.

“The killing of journalists is not only an assault on individual lives but a calculated strike against press freedom itself — an attempt to extinguish the free voice and block the transmission of reality to the world,” the statement asserted. “Such crimes pose a direct threat to the very essence of journalism and to humanity’s right to access information.”

The NOAJ reaffirmed its unwavering and unconditional solidarity with media professionals across occupied Palestine, who continue to face harassment, censorship, and targeted killing. The organization reiterated its demand for UN bodies and international human rights organizations to act urgently to stop the genocidal war being waged against the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza — a city besieged, starved, and systematically destroyed.

Holding the UN Security Council legally and morally responsible, the NOAJ called for the activation of all available mechanisms under international law to bring the perpetrators to justice, prevent their escape from accountability, and ensure the safety of journalists in war zones.

The statement closed with a solemn tribute:

“May Allah have mercy on the righteous martyrs. To Him we belong, and to Him we shall return.”
