National Union of Media Publishers Hails President’s Decision to Support Electronic Press and Installs Preparatory Committee for Its First Congress

Algiers – October 2025 – In a step toward consolidating the foundations of a professional and responsible media landscape in Algeria, members of the National Union of Media Publishers convened today at the Tahar Djaout Press House in Algiers under the chairmanship of Riad Houili, President of the Union. The meeting, which brought together key representatives of national media institutions, underscored the collective will to advance the publishing sector and ensure its alignment with the principles of legality, professionalism, and ethics.
Following the adoption of the agenda, which included two major items, the Union warmly welcomed the decision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, concerning the organization and support of the electronic press. The Union praised this initiative as a landmark move that reflects the state’s commitment to promoting digital media as an essential pillar of Algeria’s modern information ecosystem.
In its statement, the Union reaffirmed its steadfast adherence to the principle of structuring and regulating the media sector in accordance with the laws that govern it, particularly the Organic Law on Information, the Law on Written and Electronic Press, and the Audiovisual Law. These legislative frameworks, the Union emphasized, are indispensable for fostering a media environment grounded in transparency, accountability, and national interest.
Riad Houili called upon media executives, publishers, and press owners to contribute actively to elevating the profession by upholding ethical standards, adhering strictly to legal provisions, and fostering a culture of credibility and public service in journalism.
During the session, the Union officially installed the National Preparatory Committee for the First Congress of the Union, to be chaired by Dr. Berkane Boudarbala. The establishment of this committee marks an important milestone in the Union’s organizational development and strategic vision for the future of Algerian media.
Immediately following its installation, the Committee invited all publishers to take part in the organizational process leading up to the forthcoming congress, with the aim of building a strong and representative trade union body dedicated to defending the profession and promoting excellence and innovation in Algerian media.
