Livestock Vessel from Spain Delivers 11,967 Heads of Sheep to Chlef’s Port of Ténès as Part of National Efforts to Meet High Eid Demand and Stabilize Prices

Algiers, Algeria | May 16th, 2025 — In a bid to ensure livestock availability and control market fluctuations during the high-demand Eid al-Adha period, the port of Ténès in the wilaya of Chlef received a shipment of imported sheep this Friday.

The vessel, arriving from Spain, carried a total of 11,967 heads of sheep, aimed at reinforcing the national supply chain in anticipation of the religious holiday. This import operation is part of broader governmental efforts to strengthen market readiness and provide citizens with accessible options for sacrificial animals.

Authorities emphasized that the initiative aligns with Algeria’s strategic policy to respond proactively to seasonal demand, minimize speculative pricing, and ensure consumer protection. The shipment is expected to be distributed to key points across the country, supporting fair market practices during Eid preparations.
