New Algerian Ambassadors Appointed to Russia, Kazakhstan, and El Salvador

The governments of Moscow, Astana, and San Salvador approve the accreditation of Algeria’s newly appointed envoys as part of a broader diplomatic reshaping initiated by the Foreign Ministry.

Algiers, Algeria | June 10th, 2025 — In a strategic move reflecting Algeria’s continued efforts to reinforce its diplomatic ties and global engagement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs announced the appointment of three new ambassadors to key international posts. The official statement, released on Tuesday, confirmed that the host countries—Russia, Kazakhstan, and El Salvador—have granted their agrément for the nominations.

Toufik Djouama has been appointed as Algeria’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation, signaling a reinforcement of the already robust historical ties between Algiers and Moscow.

In parallel, Athmane Mehadji has been designated to serve in the same capacity as Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan, a country that plays a central role in Central Asia. Furthermore, Messaoud Mehila has been appointed Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador, with residence in Mexico City. His posting reflects Algeria’s growing interest in enhancing its diplomatic outreach in Latin America, particularly in fostering South-South cooperation, solidarity among developing nations, and multilateral engagement on issues such as climate change, food security, and decolonization.
