New Publication Documents Customs, Cultural Heritage of City of Djanet

𝓐𝓵𝓰𝓲𝓮𝓻𝓼 – 𝓙𝓪𝓷𝓾𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 – Researcher and academic Othmane Ben Sidi Ahmed Belnaqqas has released a new scholarly work entitled “The Legacy of the Ancestors in Unveiling the Customs of the City of Djanet Al-Salaf”, offering an in-depth exploration of the city’s rich cultural and social heritage.

Published by Djaouda Publishing and Distribution, the book spans 190 pages of rigorous analysis and systematic documentation. It falls within the fields of intangible cultural heritage studies, Saharan anthropology, and cultural sociology, positioning it as a valuable academic reference for researchers and readers interested in the cultural specificity of the region.

The work is structured around three main thematic sections. The first examines religious, social, and national celebrations, portraying them as collective spaces where worship, social solidarity, and shared memory converge. The second section addresses the family life cycle and the customs associated with birth, coming of age, marriage, and death, while highlighting the central role played by women in transmitting values and safeguarding cultural continuity.

The third section is devoted to agricultural traditions and the farming calendar, presented as a reflection of the deep relationship between humans, their environment, and time. In this context, the movement of the sun and stars emerges as a fundamental reference for organizing labor and production.

In developing this work, the author relied on extensive field interviews and direct observation conducted in several ancient ksour, including Igherman, Al-Mizan, Ajahil, and Zallouaz. This methodological approach enabled the construction of a precise and nuanced portrayal of the daily life and social practices of the region’s inhabitants.

Through this publication, the author contributes meaningfully to the preservation and academic valorization of Djanet’s intangible heritage, reinforcing its place within Algeria’s diverse cultural mosaic and offering future generations a meticulously documented account of ancestral customs and social memory.
