The measures now require all customers to periodically update their personal data at the time of card delivery or account creation, aligning the national postal operator with international anti-money laundering standards and Algerian data protection laws.

According to exclusive sources within Algérie Poste who spoke to Echorouk, Edahabia cards will no longer be handed over to clients without the completion of a detailed personal information form, directly at the post office counter. This move falls under the globally recognized “Know Your Customer” (KYC) principle—a fundamental pillar in the fight against illicit financial flows and criminal financing.

Every post office across the country has now been equipped with the updated KYC form, which must be carefully filled out by the cardholder. This form collects extensive personal data, including the customer’s full name, date and place of birth, national identification number, address, nationality, occupation, employer, income level, and existing bank or postal accounts, if any.

These procedures are not administrative formalities or optional decisions by Algérie Poste. Rather, they are binding regulatory obligations issued under strict directives from financial and regulatory authorities, and represent a crucial national effort to bolster the security and integrity of the financial system.

The sources emphasized that this annual and periodic updating process is now mandatory, in line with practices adopted by all accredited financial institutions in Algeria. Importantly, all data collected through this process is handled with full customer consent and treated in strict confidentiality, as stipulated by Algerian law and overseen by the National Authority for the Protection of Personal Data.

Moreover, the same procedure is now compulsory for all individuals seeking to open new current postal accounts. The KYC form—reviewed by Echorouk—also includes details such as the relevant post office name and code, and inquiries regarding the nature of the customer’s activity or business sector, as well as monthly and annual income expectations.
