Algeria cements its commitment to a knowledge-based economy as young innovators sweep awards in key sectors during the Islamic Development Bank Group’s Annual Meetings in Algiers

Algiers, Algeria | May 22nd, 2025 —   Algeria’s thriving innovation landscape witnessed a significant milestone as nine pioneering Algerian startups were awarded top honors during the third edition of the Innovation and Startup Competition, organized by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group. The award ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center, marked a high point in the ongoing annual meetings of the IsDB Group running from May 19 to 22 in Algiers.

The event was graced by the presence of the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Startups, and Micro-Enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, alongside Khaled Khalfallah, CEO of the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), both of whom praised the country’s accelerating entrepreneurial momentum and its alignment with global innovation standards.

Winning Startups in Fintech, Sustainability, and Human Development

In the Financial Solutions and Cybersecurity category, the first prize was awarded to MyTPE, a startup offering integrated solutions for banks and merchants in managing electronic payment terminals and mobile transactions. The second prize went to SlickPay, a digital payment company, while Diar Dzair, a hybrid e-commerce and installment-based delivery platform, claimed the third prize.

In the Sustainability, Agritech, and Food Security category, Voltagaz, a startup specializing in clean energy generation, won the top prize. The second award was secured by Nrouhou, a sustainable transport solutions firm, and QRIB, a precision agriculture company focused on remote irrigation systems, received the third-place award.

For the Human Capital and Social Services category, Tariq, a company dedicated to teaching artificial intelligence and coding to children, won first place. Second and third prizes went to Edugato, a video-based learning platform for children, and eSaboura, a distance learning solution, respectively.

284 Startups, 13 Finalists, and a National Showcase of Innovation

The competition featured the participation of 284 Algerian startups, with 13 finalists selected to present their projects before a distinguished jury in hopes of securing investor backing and accessing a three-month training and mentorship program.

The event also served as a platform to honor Minister Noureddine Ouadah for his unwavering commitment to promoting innovation, in addition to recognizing prominent Algerian figures and institutions, as well as IsDB-affiliated bodies for their contributions to the event’s success.

In his keynote address, Minister Ouadah stressed that “most of the submitted projects displayed creative and cutting-edge ideas, reflecting the vibrancy of Algeria’s business climate, which is strongly backed by government and financial institutions.” He also highlighted the “radical transformations” taking place within his sector, including the enactment of a new investment law, a revised banking law, and the recent introduction of two pivotal decisions concerning payment service providers and collective risk capital investment entities. According to the Minister, Algeria’s legislative and regulatory framework now aligns with the world’s most advanced ecosystems.

A Strategic Vision for Sustainable Growth

Speaking at the ceremony, ICIEC CEO Khaled Khalfallah expressed pride in the competition’s success, voicing hope that the participating startups’ innovative solutions would soon be brought to life and contribute meaningfully to socio-economic development across the Arab world.

Khalfallah emphasized that entrepreneurship remains a strategic pillar for economic diversification, especially as cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence redefine global development paradigms. He reaffirmed that the IsDB Group is actively working to dismantle barriers and ensure the tangible, sustainable impact of these high-potential startups across member states.
