Nouris Elbahr Ferries: Algeria’s New Maritime Transport Player Sets Sail

Algiers, Algeria | August 8th, 2024 — Algeria’s maritime transport sector has welcomed a new entrant with the official launch of Nouris Elbahr Ferries. This newly established company has begun its operations, adding a fresh option to the competitive arena of passenger and freight ferries between Algeria and France.

The announcement, made by the Port Company of Béjaïa (EPB), reveals that Nouris Elbahr Ferries will operate its routes using the vessel Cracovia. This semi-cargo ferry, designed to handle both passengers and freight, will enhance the connectivity between Béjaïa and Marseille.

The inaugural voyage of Nouris Elbahr Ferries is scheduled for August 23, 2024. The Cracovia will depart from Marseille at 20:00 and is set to arrive in Béjaïa at 14:00 the next day. Future sailings are planned for September 7 and September 22, maintaining similar departure and arrival times.

The Cracovia, originally built in 2002 and acquired by Polferries in 2017, has been extensively refurbished to meet contemporary maritime standards. With a length of 180 meters and a width of 24.3 meters, the vessel offers a capacity for up to 650 passengers. Additionally, it can accommodate 64 cars, 98 long-distance trucks, and 26 short-distance trucks simultaneously, operating at a service speed of 16.7 knots.

The Cracovia adheres to international maritime conventions and recommendations set by the International Maritime Organization, ensuring compliance with navigation restrictions and safety protocols.
