Algiers – September 2025 – The Director General of the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), Omar Rekkache, reaffirmed Algeria’s growing strategic role in consolidating African economic integration, stressing that the country’s geographical position, investment potential, and development vision place it at the heart of the continent’s transformative agenda.
Speaking on Friday during the Summit of African Investment Promotion Agencies, organized by the AAPI in collaboration with Afreximbank and supported by the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), held on the sidelines of the Fourth Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), Rekkache highlighted Algeria’s positioning as a natural gateway between Africa, Europe, and the Mediterranean. He underscored that this location, combined with Algeria’s abundant natural resources and dynamic human capital, allows the nation to assume a pivotal role in shaping Africa’s future economic order.
According to Rekkache, intra-African trade, which amounted to 208 billion dollars in 2024—representing barely 15% of the continent’s total trade volume—remains “far below expectations” when compared to other economic blocs. He stressed that investment promotion agencies hold a decisive responsibility in bridging this gap by fostering synergies, disseminating reliable information, and facilitating the emergence of cross-border partnerships capable of integrating Africa into global value chains.
He further reiterated AAPI’s commitment to strengthening coordination with its African counterparts, adopting international best practices while adapting them to the realities of the continent, and jointly showcasing Africa’s collective investment potential.
For her part, Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of African Affairs, Salma Bakhta Mansouri, underlined that the Summit reflected a “shared awareness of the urgent need to establish an integrated investment space capable of attracting high-value projects and articulating practical approaches that position Africa as an effective and credible partner on the global economic stage.” She described the IATF as a “practical laboratory that translates political discourse into tangible investment initiatives” and as a vital platform connecting African investors while promoting opportunities across strategic sectors.
From the perspective of Afreximbank, represented by Gainmore Zanamwe, Director of Trade Facilitation and Investment Promotion, the emphasis was placed on the transformative benefits of investments for Africa, particularly through technology transfer. Zanamwe revealed that the bank is actively supporting six African investment agencies and has dedicated a special division to investment promotion. He reaffirmed Afreximbank’s readiness to back investors eyeing the Algerian market while also accompanying Algerian operators in expanding their footprint abroad.
