Algiers – December 2025 – Marking the International Human Rights Day, the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, released a message on the platform X (formerly Twitter), reiterating Algeria’s unwavering commitment to the protection of human rights and the preservation of citizens’ dignity. His statement arrives at a moment when global debates on human rights are increasingly shaped by geopolitical tensions, selective advocacy, and the erosion of universal standards.
In his message, Nasri emphasized that “Algeria reaffirms its commitment to protecting rights and freedoms and preserving the dignity of the citizen, in accordance with the principles of legality and the rule of law.”
He further stressed Algeria’s categorical stance against the politicization of human rights, insisting that the country “firmly rejects the policy of double standards as well as any political or selective instrumentalization of the issue of human rights.”
Nasri concluded with a reminder that human rights, in essence, transcend political agendas and remain foundational values shared by humanity. As he wrote, “Human rights remain universal values that must be respected, far from any narrow considerations.”
