Algiers – September 2025 – The eight-member coalition of OPEC+ states implementing voluntary output adjustments has resolved to collectively increase oil production by 137,000 barrels per day starting October 2025. For Algeria, this strategic adjustment translates into an additional 4,000 barrels per day, a development that highlights the country’s alignment with broader efforts to safeguard market stability.

The ministerial meeting, held yesterday by videoconference, was attended by Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, alongside Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi and senior officials of the ministry. High-level representatives from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Oman, and Russia also took part in the deliberations, which centered on the immediate outlook for global oil markets and mechanisms to ensure compliance with earlier voluntary cuts.

In his intervention, Minister Arkab characterized the decision as a “measured and responsible step” that reflects the group’s determination to maintain a delicate balance between supply and demand. “Despite lingering uncertainties in the oil market, global demand remains generally sustained, even though its pace of growth may slow in the coming months,” he observed. “This decision reflects the group’s will to act responsibly, to preserve market stability, while keeping the flexibility necessary to reassess should circumstances demand it.”

The OPEC Secretariat echoed this sentiment in a communiqué, citing “stable global economic prospects and robust oil market fundamentals, particularly low global crude inventories,” as the basis for the adjustment. The statement stressed that the increase will be drawn from the 1.65 million bpd voluntary reductions announced in April 2023, which may be gradually reintroduced depending on market conditions.

The latest decision builds on the framework adopted at the March 3, 2025, meeting, when the group agreed to progressively phase out the 2.2 million bpd voluntary cuts introduced in November 2023. Initially scheduled through the end of 2026, the process has since been accelerated, with the final stage expected by September 2025. Any additional increases will henceforth be deducted from the April 2023 voluntary adjustment quota.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination through monthly meetings, ensuring strict compliance, effective compensation measures, and the ability to pause or reverse adjustments should external shocks or demand fluctuations destabilize the market. The next ministerial meeting of the OPEC+ G8 is scheduled for October 5, 2025.
