Algiers, Algeria | June 26th, 2025 — A serious incident in Morocco has ignited public outrage after a surveillance camera was discovered in the changing room used by underage female football players, aged between 14 and 17, in a sports complex in the city of Tangier. The National Organization for Human Rights and the Fight Against Corruption publicly condemned the act, describing it as a grave violation of minors’ rights and human dignity.

The incident came to light following the circulation of a video on social media showing the camera concealed in a private space intended for female athletes. The footage was accompanied by an audio recording of a senior official from the sports complex, in which he admits to installing the device—raising serious legal and ethical questions.

The human rights organization issued a strong statement, denouncing the rationale given by the facility’s management, which cited “security concerns” as the justification for the camera. The organization rejected this reasoning outright, stating that “the protection of property cannot come at the expense of physical and moral privacy, especially in the case of underage girls.”

In its press release, the organization demanded immediate action, including a thorough and transparent investigation, the temporary suspension of those responsible, and an official apology to the affected athletes. It also called for urgent psychological and medical support for the girls involved, emphasizing the possible long-term trauma resulting from such a violation.

“This act constitutes a form of moral violence and a flagrant breach of ethical and sports values,” the organization said, urging Moroccan authorities to ensure justice is served. The organization also criticized what it described as a “worrying pattern of permissiveness” when it comes to protecting minors, warning that leniency in such cases could have devastating social consequences.

The statement further called on national sports authorities—including the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and its president, Fouzi Lekjaa—to assume full responsibility and take corrective measures to prevent the recurrence of similar abuses.
