Partnership Between CRTI, ENSA, and MAG Group: Scientific Research Driving Agricultural Mechanization

ALGIERS, March 16th, 2026 — The Centre for Research in Industrial Technologies (CRTI) marked a significant milestone on Monday with the signing of two pivotal agreements in the field of agricultural machinery production.

The CRTI formalized collaborations with the MAG Company, a specialist in agricultural and handling equipment construction, and the National Higher School of Agronomy (ENSA). These partnerships reflect a concerted effort to integrate scientific research and technological innovation into the mechanization of Algerian agriculture.

Six Technological Solutions Presented to Operators

The first agreement, signed with MAG, concerns the development and production of agricultural machinery, while the second, with ENSA, focuses on scientific and technological cooperation within the realm of agricultural mechanization. During the ceremony at the CRTI headquarters, prototypes of the machinery to be developed were showcased in the presence of Kamel Baddari, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, CRTI officials and designers, and the General Manager of MAG, the operating partner.

Minister Baddari emphasized that both agreements are intended to strengthen the role of scientific research and innovation in advancing agricultural mechanization. Today, the CRTI presents six technological solutions, fully matured and ready for the national market,” he stated. He further encouraged economic operators, particularly industrialists, to adopt these ready-made solutions and transform them into manufactured products, thereby generating added value for the national economy.

Integrated Innovations for National Sovereignty

This portfolio of six innovations will have a tangible impact on the national economy. These are integrated solutions that serve national sovereignty in the agricultural, industrial, and artificial intelligence sectors,” Baddari continued. The minister lauded CRTI researchers and students for their substantial contributions to the agricultural sector, noting that these innovations exemplify the integration of research and practical application. He also acknowledged the commitment of economic operators embracing this national dynamic through the adoption of these innovative concepts and their commercialization.

CRTI Director Dr. Rayad Badji highlighted the significance of these agreements in modernizing agricultural practices. Today, we have signed two agreements: a framework convention with ENSA for collaborative development of agricultural machinery, and a second with MAG to produce prototypes for serial manufacturing. Agriculture remains a strategic priority for scientific research due to its direct impact on national food security,” he explained.

A Stone Harvester for the High Plateaux

Mokhtar Chahboub, representing MAG, noted that this collaboration between a research center and an industrial operator will support state-led efforts to mechanize agriculture. Our current portfolio includes 142 products already on the market. In partnership with CRTI, we have developed a stone harvester that addresses a critical need among farmers in the High Plateaux, where labor shortages make this arduous task extremely challenging,” he stated. The first model has a two-ton capacity, with a second, five-ton variant in development.

Scheduled for national release in June, this machine will dramatically increase efficiency, reducing a week’s worth of traditional labor to a single day. We have initiated production of five machines while assessing farmer demand. We plan to implement an annual manufacturing program and scale production according to need,” Chahboub added.

Beyond stone harvesters, CRTI continues to develop additional prototypes, including crop-monitoring robots, agricultural drones for precision farming, phytosanitary protection, fertilization, and pest control. The center also aims to advance intelligent greenhouse systems to support hydroponic and other soilless cultivation techniques.
