ALGIERS- In a significant step towards fortifying historical ties, Algeria and Serbia are set to establish a permanent pavilion dedicated to the Algerian Revolution at Serbia’s Book Museum. This initiative comes as a result of the meeting between the Minister of Mujahideen and Rights Holders, Laid Rebiga, and the Serbian writer and legal expert, Viktor Lazić, held on Thursday.

The discussions during the meeting not only touched upon the historical connections between Algeria and Serbia but also explored avenues to enhance collaboration, particularly in scientific and academic domains. Minister Rebiga emphasized the “qualitative and distinctive” historical relations between the two nations, recalling the unwavering and robust support of the late Yugoslav President Josip Tito for the Algerian Revolution.

Minister Rebiga highlighted the “important steps” taken to promote cooperation between Algeria and Serbia, emphasizing the historical significance of Serbia being the first European country to recognize the Temporary Algerian Government and support the revolution through political, diplomatic, financial, and military means.

Expressing the hope to perpetuate the legacy of the revolution and its supporters, the Minister stated that the ministry aspires to immortalize the deeds of the revolution and its friends through scholarly and academic works.

In response, Viktor Lazić expressed his deep respect for Algeria’s history and aspirations, expressing his hope that the relations between Serbia and Algeria would expand and strengthen in the future.

Lazić revealed that he is working on a new book titled “The Algerian Revolution in the Serbian Press,” scheduled for publication in early 2024. He described this upcoming publication as a “significant source for historians and enthusiasts interested in the Algerian Revolution.”

Additionally, Lazić announced plans to allocate a permanent section within the Book Museum in Belgrade, managed by him, dedicated to the Algerian Revolution. This dedicated space will serve as a tribute to the historical importance of the revolution and its enduring impact.
