President Tebboune Affirms International Financial Trust in Algeria: “We Are Becoming an Inescapable Economic Power”

Algiers, Algeria– Friday, July 18, 2025 | President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, speaking during his regular dialogue with representatives of the national press, struck a determined tone regarding the country’s economic reorientation. With unwavering conviction, he painted a picture of an Algeria on the rise—an Algeria that is no longer on the periphery but firmly positioning itself as a formidable regional and international economic actor.

“The international financial institutions now place their trust in us,” declared President Tebboune. This assertion is far from rhetorical. It reflects a seismic shift in how Algeria is perceived globally—from a nation tethered to oil revenues and vulnerable to external shocks, to a country that is diversifying, reforming, and increasingly respected on the world economic stage.

President Tebboune pointed to the many structural reforms undertaken since 2019, which have revitalized the national economy, attracted foreign confidence, and reshaped internal financial behavior. “We are becoming a reference and an inescapable economic power,” he proclaimed, emphasizing the transformative journey Algeria has embarked upon under his leadership.

Yet, despite this rising trajectory, the Head of State cautioned that progress is still encumbered by legacy attitudes and reluctance among some circles. He addressed the issue of informal capital, noting that substantial sums continue to circulate outside legal financial frameworks. However, Tebboune made it clear that while coercive measures are available, the state prefers persuasion and integration: “Those who hoard considerable capital must come to understand that their own interest lies in joining the legal financial and economic circuits.”

He framed this transition not as an imposition but as a rational step toward collective prosperity: “Mentalities are changing for the better,” he said, “but not as quickly as I would hope.” Still, his outlook remains unequivocally optimistic, rooted in the belief that the new Algeria is not only a political slogan but an economic reality in formation.
