Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2025 — In a solemn tribute reflecting the nation’s reverence for its heroic sons, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azzouz Nasri, expressed their deepest condolences following the passing of moudjahid Mustapha Boudina—an emblematic figure of Algeria’s anti-colonial struggle and national memory.

In a heartfelt message addressed to the family of the deceased, President Tebboune hailed the late Boudina as “a courageous freedom fighter, a survivor of the guillotine, and a steadfast defender of Algeria’s dignity,” recalling his harrowing imprisonment on death row at the notorious Montluc Prison in Lyon. As the head of a fedayin commando unit, Boudina bore witness to the brutality of colonialism and emerged as a living testament to its atrocities.

“He leaves behind the memory of a brave warrior, respected and revered, who stood unshaken in the face of imminent execution. He, along with his fellow moudjahidine and the valiant martyrs of the revolution, became a lasting moral challenge to the colonizer. Their resilience remains an eternal symbol that continues to inspire generations of Algerians,” the President affirmed.

Tebboune also underscored that Boudina’s legacy was not confined to the battlefield but extended into post-independence Algeria. As President of the National Association of Former Death Row Prisoners, Boudina continued to uphold the principles of the Revolution and served with integrity in national institutions. “In these sorrowful moments, I extend my condolences to his family and comrades. May the Almighty grant him mercy, and may He bestow patience and solace upon you. Indeed, to God we belong and to Him we shall return,” Tebboune concluded.

From the upper chamber of the Algerian Parliament, Council of the Nation Speaker Azzouz Nasri paid homage to Boudina’s lifelong devotion to Algeria. In a message imbued with profound emotion, Nasri praised the moudjahid’s valor during the war of liberation and his continued dedication to the Republic.

“The deceased fulfilled his sacred national duty with unwavering commitment. From the trenches of the glorious Revolution to his tenure in the Council of the Nation, he embodied the essence of patriotic service,” wrote Nasri, addressing his message notably to Mrs. Damerdji Nadjia and all members of the Boudina family.

He extended heartfelt condolences and solidarity to the bereaved, calling upon the living moudjahidine and moudjahidate to join in honoring a comrade who represented their shared legacy. “In these blessed days, I beseech the Almighty to open for him the gates of His vast paradise, to envelop him in divine mercy, and to bestow patience upon his loved ones. To God we belong and to Him we return,” Nasri concluded.
