President Tebboune Awarded the Highest Distinction of the Mediterranean Sports Merit Order

Algiers – November 2025 – In a tribute to Algeria’s growing stature on the international sporting stage, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was decorated on Tuesday with the highest distinction of the Order of Merit of the Mediterranean Sports Movement, awarded by the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (CIJM). This honor represents one of the most prestigious recognitions granted by the organization to leaders whose vision and support have decisively shaped the evolution of Mediterranean sport.
According to the CIJM, the distinction acknowledges President Tebboune’s pivotal role in ensuring the exceptional organization of major international sporting events hosted by Algeria in recent years. It highlights both his strategic guidance and his sustained policy of promoting sports development—from elite athletes to clubs, schools, and university programs—reflecting a comprehensive national approach to athletic excellence.
Mehrez Boussayene, First Vice President of the CIJM, emphasized that this honor is a direct recognition of President Tebboune’s unwavering commitment to youth and sports. Speaking to the press following his audience with the President—alongside CIJM President Davide Tizzano—Boussayene underscored that the award pays homage to Tebboune’s decisive contribution to the success of the 2022 Oran Mediterranean Games.
Describing the Oran Games as “historic and successful in every respect,” Boussayene noted that their excellence was inseparable from the President’s personal engagement, strategic oversight, and readiness to mobilize national resources to ensure the event’s triumph. He further stressed that Algeria’s constant readiness to host major sporting competitions is itself a testament to the importance President Tebboune places on empowering youth and elevating the role of sport in society.
