President Tebboune Confers National Order of Merit on DGSN Chief Ali Badaoui during High-Ranking Military Promotion Ceremony

Algiers, Algeria | July 3rd, 2025 — In a solemn and symbolically charged ceremony held at the People’s Palace in the capital Algiers, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, awarded the National Order of Merit, Achir rank, to Ali Badaoui, Director General of National Security (DGSN), in recognition of his unwavering service to the nation.

The decoration was conferred during the annual ceremony of military promotions, a key national event traditionally held on the eve of Algeria’s Independence Day celebrations, which this year marks the 63rd anniversary of the restoration of national sovereignty.

The event was attended by the country’s highest civil and military authorities, including members of the Government, senior officers of the People’s National Army (ANP), veterans of the liberation struggle, national dignitaries, and representatives of various state institutions.

Upon his arrival at the palace, President Tebboune was welcomed with full military honors by General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence and Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army. Following the performance of the national anthem, the Head of State reviewed formations of the ANP assembled in his honor and exchanged greetings with high-ranking military officers.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of new military ranks and medals to generals and senior officers of the ANP, underscoring the regime’s commitment to institutional continuity, discipline, and national security. President Tebboune’s personal involvement in the ceremony signaled the strategic importance attributed to the armed forces and internal security structures in safeguarding the Republic.

Among the honorees, Ali Badaoui’s decoration with the Order of Merit at the Achir rank stood out as a tribute to his leadership in modernizing Algeria’s national police force and enhancing public safety. The award symbolizes both institutional trust and national gratitude for his career-long dedication to the country’s stability and internal order.
