President Tebboune Convenes High Security Council to Address National Security Matters

Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2025 — President of the Republic and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who also serves as Minister of National Defence, presided on Wednesday over a meeting of the High Security Council, reaffirming the state’s vigilance in the face of evolving national security challenges.

The High Security Council, a top-level advisory and decision-making body in Algeria, consists of the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, and the Ministers of Justice, Interior, and Foreign Affairs, along with the Director of the Presidential Cabinet.

Also present at the meeting were the Commander of the National Gendarmerie, the Director General of National Security, the Director General of Documentation and External Security, the Director General of Internal Security, the Director General for Counter-Sabotage, and the Central Director of Military Security.

The Council meets regularly, as deemed necessary, to deliberate on all matters pertaining to national security—whether of internal or external nature. Wednesday’s session underscores Algeria’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty, maintaining internal stability, and responding decisively to regional and global security developments.
