Algiers, Algeria– Friday, July 18, 2025 | In a candid and data-rich engagement with the national press, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune unveiled a major economic milestone: Algeria’s agricultural production has soared to a value of $38 billion, marking a significant leap forward in the country’s economic diversification efforts. The President lauded this progress as evidence that Algeria’s agriculture is on the cusp of matching the performance of the hydrocarbons sector, historically the cornerstone of national revenue.

President Tebboune linked this remarkable growth to two key factors: abundant harvests and the effective enforcement of anti-speculation legislation. “Speculation has decreased, and that is due to coercive measures now embedded in the law,” he emphasized, noting the state’s unwavering commitment to market regulation and consumer protection. These reforms have not only curbed unlawful practices but also enabled a more transparent and productive distribution chain for farmers and traders alike.

The Head of State further pointed to Algeria’s increasing export potential, stating: “We now have a surplus in products such as apples, and some of our agricultural outputs are being exported.” He highlighted the success of vineyards in the Boumerdes province as a symbol of Algeria’s agro-climatic diversity and the growing professionalism of its farming communities.

President Tebboune’s confidence in the sector’s trajectory reflects a broader strategic vision—positioning agriculture as a sovereign, self-sustaining pillar of the national economy. “Agriculture is no longer a support sector—it is an engine,” he stressed. With its growing contribution to GDP, job creation, and rural revitalization, agriculture is steadily transforming into a national success story.
