President Tebboune Engages with the Press: Inflation Decline, African Trade Success, Digital Transformation, and Electoral Reform

Algiers – September 2025 – In his latest periodic encounter with representatives of the national press, broadcast Friday evening on Algerian television, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune outlined the priorities and strategic orientations shaping Algeria’s current trajectory. The dialogue, marked by clarity and firmness, offered both a review of pressing economic issues and a vision for the future of governance, agriculture, and political reform.
At the economic forefront, President Tebboune expressed his satisfaction at having brought inflation below the 4% threshold, describing it as a “very important” achievement amid global instability, trade tensions, and generalized price hikes. He credited the collective efforts of Algerians for this performance, underlining that such progress reflects tighter market regulation and the effective implementation of monetary and fiscal policies. International institutions, including the IMF and the World Bank, have echoed this view, lauding Algeria’s resilience against external shocks and praising reforms aimed at protecting household purchasing power while maintaining macroeconomic stability.
Turning to Algeria’s growing role on the continental stage, Tebboune hailed the resounding success of the 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair hosted in Algiers. The event, which attracted hundreds of operators and delegations, was described as proof of Algeria’s “considerable organizational capacity” and its emergence as a vital hub for trade and cooperation in Africa. For many observers, this success consolidates Algeria’s credibility as a regional leader and reliable partner in advancing intra-African economic integration.
The President also addressed governance and leadership, defending his choice of Sifi Ghrieb as the new Prime Minister. “The Prime Minister I appointed knows the field and masters the realities of the country,” Tebboune explained, insisting that the decision reflects his drive to ensure harmony between presidential directives and executive action—a prerequisite for coherent reforms and effective responses to citizens’ expectations.
Agriculture, a sector Tebboune called a “science and technology,” received special attention during the exchange. Stressing the urgency of modernization and digitization, he declared that Algeria must embrace innovation, data-driven practices, and advanced techniques to secure food sovereignty and increase productivity. His warning was unambiguous: “If the process of digitization is not completed by the end of the year, I will take radical measures.”
Digital transformation, a cornerstone of Tebboune’s reform agenda since his election, was presented as an indispensable lever for transparency, anti-corruption efforts, and rationalized governance. The expansion of digital platforms has already facilitated administrative simplification, curbed bureaucracy, and brought state services closer to citizens. Economically, it enables broader tax formalization, strengthens integration into global markets, and creates opportunities for innovation and start-ups.
On the political front, Tebboune announced preparations for a partial revision of the electoral law, specifically concerning technical aspects designed to enhance transparency and ensure the integrity of elections. “We are revising the electoral law in certain technical areas to guarantee elections under the best conditions,” he emphasized, reinforcing his commitment to building a modern, strong, and united Algeria anchored in democratic principles.
