Algiers – December 2025 – President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has granted a full presidential pardon to the detainee, the historian and academic Mohamed El Amine Belghith, covering the entire remaining portion of his sentence, following a final conviction.
According to an official statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic, the decision was taken in accordance with the constitutional prerogatives vested in the President, notably Articles 91 (paragraphs 7 and 8) and 182 of the Constitution. The decree was signed after the issuance of a consultative opinion by the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, in full compliance with the provisions of Article 182.
The communiqué specifies that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune signed, on this date, a presidential decree granting a total remission of the remaining sentence to be served by Belghith definitively convicted.
This presidential measure falls within the constitutional framework governing the exercise of the right of pardon, reaffirming the President’s authority to grant clemency in accordance with the law and the consultative mechanisms provided by the Constitution.
The decree takes immediate effect and fully extinguishes the remaining custodial penalty imposed on the beneficiary.
